• STS131 – Discovery

I just watched Discovery fly over Gainesville.  It was very cool! It is a beautiful morning.

I had the laptop on Nasa.tv in the backyard and watched it cross the US.  Discovery crossed east of gainesville about 9 min’s ago and was going 3,600 miles per hour.  I saw Discovery in the East, just under the Sun, about 1 min after hearing the sonic boom.

I think this is the last scheduled Space Shuttle Mission.

Here is a screen shot from nasa.tv

  • Sonic Boom

Tonight Lisa and I heard the sonic boom of the Space Shuttle landing at Cape Canaveral.  At first we thought it was thunder (although I wonder if its possible to have both at the same time) but later I learned that it landed.

The report I saw showed pictures in Houston so again I thought it was thunder…but now listening to WESH 2 news out of Orlando they have a report of people in Ocala (south of us) hearing it.   In fact, they actually recorded and played it on the TV.  Very Nice!

Here is Florida… and the Shuttle must have crossed us west to east, north to south.

Here is a picture at the exact moment of the sonic boom.  (But not the one tonight)
