Tonight Evan completed the first 8 tracks to get the Bobcat Trail.  It was very fun.  I really just wanted to give him the book, make him sign it, and just start looking at it.  So after signing it, we started looking at some stuff and decided to try.

After a few minutes he started to make the connection about doing activities and achieving an award.   We started with just #1, the Cub Scout Promise:

I, EVAN SMITH promise
to DO MY BEST
To do my DUTY to GOD
And my Country
To HELP other people, and
To OBEY the LAW of the Pack 

After just a few minutes he memorized it and could tell me about it.  Awesome! Filled with joy we moved to the next, then next and then when we looked in the index and saw we needed just 3 more to get a badge he really wanted to finish. So we did the rest.   

Then we talked about it and told mom when she came home.  I really felt afterward that this is just another way to help Evan learn and grow.

When I tucked him in for bed tonight he said 2 things; 1) Thanks Dad for helping me get the Bobcat, and 2) Can you get me some water?

Priceless.

The whole family camped this weekend at Camp Shands in Melrose. Boy was it cold!
