• St. Pats beats BT

This was the ending of Cameron’s BB game tonight. It went to overtime and then a teammate, Ryan Fisher, hit this..

  • Cameron makes the team

Yesterday Cameron, after 2 previous tries, made the Varsity Basketball team at St. Patricks!

We were so proud of him. His mom got him some new basketball shoes that looked huge, but I know fit just right.

He was all smiles hanging with his friends after the try-outs.

I am so proud he did it and even prouder that he tried.

  • Tickle me Elmo

Last night I totally pulled a “gag” on the boys. We went to Moe’s for dinner and the place was packed wth young kids, much younger than mine. We overheard a family talk about how they were about to go to the Elmo Live show at the O-Dome after dinner.

I quikly said to the boys “hurry up, we have somewhere to go”. They asked where and I said it was a surprise. I then said, “we are going to see Elmo Live at the O’Dome”. The look on their faces was priceless. I kept a straight face and said, “yea, I even got front row seats”. Man it was fun. It went on for 30 minutes. They didn’t want anything to do with Elmo.

So Evan says,”Dad, I am cold, I have a sore throat, I have sooo much homework to do…” priceless. “I don’t want to go see Elmo, please…”. Cameron had this look of “I can’t believe my dad would do this” on his face.

Even after driving to wrong way (back to the house) they were still convinced. They wanted to see tickets. When we neared our neigbhorhood they realized it and said “Dad, whats up with the Elmo Gag!”. It was a great moment to share with my boys.

You know your kids are getting older when Elmo just doesn’t do it for them anymore.

I did take Cameron years ago to the O’Dome for the Sesame Street Live (which I think did feature Elmo).

It was great to remind Cam of this.

  • Possum Creek

Friday night I took the boys to the annual Cub Scouts camp out at Possum Creek.  Most of the Pack came including the entire Herrington clan, yes ALL 7!   Ernie and I setup the tents and then both our families met at my house for a “cook out” before returning to the camp site.  The only way to camp!  It seemed easier to grill and eat at home since we are so close to the camp site.  I know it not the same as going to Camp Shands in Melrose but Possum Creek is supposed to be for “Beginner” campers.  As usual, we had a large bonfire Friday night and on Saturday morning we got to see the helicopters from the Alachua County Fire Rescue and the Life Flight ShandsCair from UF.  Both were very impressive and I especially liked the ShandsCair. Here is Evan standing next to the Copter evancopter.jpgCameron is watching the demostration of the Sheriff Canine Buck camdoggie.jpgbuck.jpg

  • Brothers

Last night I put the boys to bed and Evan was having difficulty falling asleep.  I let Cam read for a bit.  After 30 minutes, I went in and checked on them and found Evan in Cameron’s bed and both were fast asleep.  It is such a wonderful thing seeing your boys snuggling together.  I know as they get older this will not happen.  Evan never asked me, but somehow convinced Cameron to let him come in.

This morning I crawled into bed with them.  Life doesn’t get much better.

  • Dominoes

Tonight I played dominoes with the boys.  At first I forgot how to play, so I Googled it.  And found this.

There are many variations, so we played old school, simple.

It was very joyful spending time just playing with them.  Both boys enjoyed trying to win. :>   I think Cam and I can get into if we keep score.
